There is a saying that God created the world in 6 days, and he spent the 7th day playing golf. Certainly, if one had to select a form of recreation that allows one time in a beautiful setting to appreciate one's surroundings, Golf is a winning choice.

The Ryder Cup was held in Wales in 2011, and it is the first time it has ever been held on a golf-course specifically built for the occasion - the Celtic Manor Resort's Twenty Ten Course, an hour's drive from Lothlorien Cottage. The Welsh believe if a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well.

The nearest golf course, Garnant Park Golf Course is a two minute drive from the cottage.

The Royal Porthcawl Golf Club
The world renowned Royal Porthcawl Golf Course is only a 40 minute drive from Lothlorien Cottage. It was described as being one of the twelve finest courses in the world by the late Tom Scott, a leading writer on golf and former editor of Golf Illustrated and has held many prestigious professional and amateur events over the years.

Porthcawl has an astounding 40ft tide - one of the highest in the world which means the coastline is a constantly changing visual feast - and it is also one of the most popular surfing destinations in Wales. It has 7 beaches and a popular Jazz festival in April

It also has an Elvis Festival in September (24 -26 September 2010) that was selected as one of the UK's top twenty summer festivals by The Times in 2008
Looking on a map, the whole area in which Lothlorien Cottage is set, is a patchwork of golf courses. You could stay for a week, play golf on a different course every day and just be starting to scratch the surface.



One of the best things about golf courses is that they are always set in scenic positions, and designed with an aesthetic eye, so the beautiful Welsh landscape is a natural backdrop for the game. If you are looking for golf breaks in Wales, you have arrived. Sit down and have a leisurely cup of tea before your next game.
